COMING CLEAN, from 2x Sundance Grand Jury Winner Ondi Timoner, blazes a trail of empathy and action around the deadliest drug epidemic in our nation's history.
The documentary takes a truly cinematic approach, unleashing all that film has to offer as it explores the depths of our urgent opioid crisis. COMING CLEAN weaves together captivating animation and deeply personal stories of loss and recovery in an attempt to demonstrate what's at stake as well as the history, science, and capitalistic systems that underpin it all. COMING CLEAN is a journey into a dark and painful subject but it is also a story - and a fight - that's tied to hope, beauty, and human connection.
The COMING CLEAN community is driven by a shared belief system: that in order to disarm this very real threat to American Life we must investigate our country's devastating trend toward loneliness, separation, and the demonization of addiction. The film follows recovering addicts, policy makers, and one fire-tested litigator as they come together to bring the profiteers to justice and offer achievable solutions to this epidemic...
  • If you’re looking for solutions to the opioid crisis, this film is for you.
  • If you believe in the power of community to lift up those in need, this film is for you.
  • If you’re looking to feel seen and heard in the face of addiction, this film is for you.
  • If you want to more deeply understand this complex crisis and find tools to share within your community, this film is for you.
  • If you believe that human suffering should not be a for-profit industry, this film is for you.
We made COMING CLEAN for anyone that wants to do better by our friends, neighbors, loved ones, and nation as a whole. To date, the death toll from the opioid crisis has surpassed that of the Vietnam War, with over 72,000 people dying from overdoses every year - and these numbers are on the rise. The COVID-19 pandemic is driving opioid-related deaths up in almost every U.S. state and we must act now.

"In the six months since Covid-19 brought the nation to a standstill, the opioid epidemic has taken a sharp turn for the worse. […] In Arkansas, the use of Narcan, an overdose-reversing drug, has tripled. Jacksonville, Fla., has seen a 40 percent increase in overdose-related calls. In March alone, York County in Pennsylvania recorded three times more overdose deaths than normal.”
